SDoL Named Best Community for Music Education

For more than a decade, the School District of Lancaster has been considered one of best places for music education.

The NAMM Foundation named the School District of Lancaster to its 2021 list of Best Communities for Music Education for outstanding commitment to music education. SDoL is one of 686 school districts across the country to achieve this recognition for 2021.

Now in its 22nd year, the Best Communities for Music Education designation is awarded to districts that demonstrate outstanding achievement in efforts to provide music access and education to all students. To qualify for the Best Communities designation, School District of Lancaster representatives answered detailed questions about funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time, facilities, and support for the music programs.

SDoL benefits from the on-going support of Music for Everyone, which continues to support teachers and students through grants for instruments and professional mentors. In addition, Lancaster Symphony Orchestra performs free concerts for elementary students and loans instruments to students across the district.

“It is through the support of community organizations, music teachers, school board members, administrators, parents, and our students that we continue to achieve this recognition each year,” said Michael Slechta, SDoL’s coordinator of music, art, humanities and 21st century skills. “Together, we are making a positive difference in the musical lives of our students and their families.”
