Burrowes Elementary School
Construction has begun on a new Burrowes Elementary School, which is scheduled to be completed by the fall of 2025. You can view a live stream of construction below.
The new building, located on the same grounds as the current school, will replace the original building constructed in 1954. The 70-year-old structure saw renovations in 1970 and 1987, but has aged beyond its useful life, particularly in the areas of electrical and HVAC.
The new site, on the opposite corner of the lot, is designed to alleviate traffic concerns by moving the building away from the busy Orange Street area, allow for improved vehicle and pedestrian circulation, and provide sheltered play areas away from public roads. The new 53,000 square foot building will feature modern classrooms with lots of natural light, flexible spaces for student work and meetings, and high-efficiency HVAC systems. The total project is expected to cost $26.2 million.
The new building is designed by Marotta/Main Architects. Fidevia Construction Management & Consulting is providing oversight of contractors Harbor Engineering, Moore Engineering, Joseph Barbato Associates, ECI Construction, JBM Mechanical, and Hirneisen Electrical.
