The School District of Lancaster believes in promoting and sustaining a positive school environment where all members feel welcomed, supported and safe in school: socially, emotionally, intellectually and physically. That’s why we embrace initiatives like Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports, restorative practices and a School Resource Officer program that allows local police officers to develop relationships with students and families.
CLIMATE & CULTURE
At its heart, PBIS calls on schools to teach kids about behavior, just as they would teach about any other subject. A hallmark of a school using PBIS is that everyone knows what’s appropriate behavior.
We believe that people are happier, more cooperative, more productive, and more likely to make positive changes in behavior when those in position of authority do things with them, rather than to them or for them. That’s why SDoL takes a restorative approach to resolving conflict in schools.
