Earlier this fall, elementary schools across the School District of Lancaster took part in mock job interviews as part of their preparation for JA BizTown®, an engaging, hands-on program that connects what they’re learning in school to real-world experiences. Those mock interviews gave students the chance to practice communication skills, learn interview etiquette, and build confidence as they applied for their “jobs” in the simulated BizTown community.
Now, as our students get ready for their upcoming JA BizTown visits, we’re inviting volunteers to join us in helping make this experience possible.
JA BizTown® combines in-class lessons with a full-day trip to a simulated town where students operate banks, manage restaurants, write checks, and even vote for mayor. The program gives students the opportunity to see how personal finance, business operations, and civic responsibility work together to shape a community.
By the end of their experience, students are able to:
- Discuss the roles they play as citizens, workers, and consumers within the free enterprise system
- Understand the importance of rights and responsibilities in their community
- Demonstrate money management and basic banking skills
- Develop soft skills for success in the workplace
- Apply critical thinking and teamwork in real-world scenarios
This year, 12 elementary schools will participate in JA BizTown, and we need the help of district administrators, local professionals, and community members to bring the experience to life.
We’re seeking volunteers at the different sessions to assist at the simulated town sites on the following dates:
- October 27, 2025 – Wharton & Ross ES
- November 19, 2025 – King & Price ES
- December 5, 2025 – Martin & Wickersham ES
- January 7, 2026 – SWE & Hamilton eS
- March 30, 2026 – Burrowes & Carter and MacRae ES
Your role as a volunteer is to help guide students through their assigned jobs, encourage problem-solving, and support them as they apply their classroom learning in a real-world setting.
JA BizTown is one of the most memorable moments of elementary school, and your involvement helps make that possible.
