Halloween is right around the corner, and the City of Lancaster is preparing for an evening filled with creativity, community, and candy. The Lancaster Inter-Municipal Committee recommends that trick-or-treating take place on Friday, October 31, 2025, from 6 to 8 pm, rain or shine.
While this is a recommendation rather than a municipal ordinance, residents, neighborhoods, and community organizations are encouraged to align their celebrations with this timeframe. This shared window helps create a more coordinated, family-friendly experience throughout the city and surrounding townships.
Halloween has long been a time for connection across generations. Parents, caregivers, and community members come together to ensure children can enjoy the excitement of dressing up, sharing treats, and exploring their neighborhoods safely.
As we prepare for another evening of Halloween traditions, the School District of Lancaster reminds families to take extra care to stay visible, follow safety precautions, and look out for one another.
Safety tips for trick-or-treaters and families:
-
Choose costumes that are easy to see at night. Consider using bright colors, reflective tape, or glow accessories to help drivers spot you. Carrying a flashlight is also recommended.
-
Stick to sidewalks whenever possible and use designated crosswalks or intersections when crossing the street. Always stay alert for vehicles, bicycles, and other moving traffic.
-
Young children should always be accompanied by a trusted adult. Older children and teens are encouraged to travel in groups and share their planned route and return time with a parent or guardian.
-
Never enter the home, apartment, or car of someone you do not know.
-
Plan your route ahead of time and choose well-lit areas that are familiar to your family or neighborhood.
-
Parents and caregivers should inspect all candy and treats before consumption. Discard any unwrapped or homemade items from unfamiliar sources and only keep candy in its original packaging.
Drivers are also reminded to be cautious and patient during trick-or-treat hours. Slow down, stay alert for pedestrians, and avoid distractions such as mobile devices while behind the wheel.
Halloween is an opportunity to celebrate imagination, community spirit.Be safe and look out for your neighbors!
