Honoring excellence: Jackson MS celebrates student achievement at Crispus Attucks Community Center

At Jackson Middle School, success is a community effort. This week, students, families, and staff gathered at the historic Crispus Attucks Community Center to celebrate more than 115 students who achieved honor roll or distinguished honor roll for the marking period, the largest number in recent memory.

Students in grades six through eight were recognized for earning A’s and B’s or straight A’s, marking a milestone for the school’s growing culture of academic excellence. Assistant Principal Dr. Heather Sparmblack expressed immense pride in both the students and the village that continues to surround them.

“Today we are honoring our students of Jackson Middle School who have achieved honor roll or distinguished honor roll. We are proud to say that we have over 115 kids who reached that milestone, which is the biggest number we’ve had in a very long time,” said Dr. Sparmblack. “It’s amazing to not only see the students, but also the support of our families and community, because together, we want all of our students to be successful, and we can’t do it alone.”

The room was filled with energy as families cheered for their children walking across the stage. Teachers and staff applauded with pride, celebrating not only academic excellence but also the personal growth behind each accomplishment.

Dr. Sparmblack emphasized the importance of hosting events like this to reinforce the value of education and hard work. “It’s important for our students to know that doing well in school matters. These celebrations remind them that effort leads to achievement and that their success today sets the foundation for their future.”

Among the many stories of determination, one stood out. A student from Jackson’s emotional support program, who had been working closely with staff and his family over the past year and a half, proudly earned a place on the honor roll. “He prides himself on meeting his behavior goals every day, but this time he went beyond that,” shared Dr. Sparmblack. “He was so excited to run down the hall and tell me he made the honor roll. Seeing his joy when he walked up to get his certificate was a moment I’ll never forget.”

Events like this highlight the heart of Jackson’s mission to celebrate growth, build partnerships with families, and create spaces where students know their hard work matters.

At Jackson Middle School, success is shared, celebrated, and supported by all.

As Dr. Sparmblack shared, “It takes a village. We want our families to know that Jackson is here to partner with them every step of the way.”
