The holiday season arrived in downtown Lancaster this weekend, and the Mayor’s Tree Lighting brought our community together in a way that felt both familiar and refreshing. As the School District of Lancaster, we were grateful to be part of a tradition that reminds us how powerful it is when people gather in shared spaces.
Penn Square filled early with families, students, alumni, and neighbors who came to watch the tree come alive. The moment the switch was flipped, the crowd lit up right along with the tree. That simple spark carried a feeling of hope and togetherness all across the square.

These celebrations always remind us that community does not form in big moments alone. It grows from small acts of showing up for one another. Our students and families do that every day. Whether it is a classroom project, a performance, a volunteer event, or a simple warm greeting, the heart of Lancaster is built on connection.

Being part of the Mayor’s Tree Lighting is an opportunity for us to stand beside the people we serve and celebrate the season together. It reinforces why our work matters and why we remain committed to supporting every child and every family who walks through our doors.

As the holidays begin, we are thankful for the generosity and unity that this community continues to show. We look forward to carrying that spirit into the weeks ahead and into the new year. For more photos, visit us on social media
