Two new Pennsylvania laws are now in effect, and both are designed to keep students safe and on track academically.
Act 44 – Safety Notifications
Beginning January 6, 2026, school districts must notify parents, guardians, and staff within 24 hours if a weapon is found on school property, on school transportation, or at a school-sponsored event. These notifications will be brief and will never include student names or personal details.
“Our district has always prioritized transparency and safety,” said district officials. “We’ll continue to work closely with law enforcement and maintain strong safety measures because the well-being of our students is our top priority.”
Act 47 – Attendance and Cyber Charter Transfers
Effective December 12, 2025, students who are habitually truant—defined as six or more unexcused absences—cannot transfer to a cyber charter school during the school year unless a judge determines the move is in the student’s best interest.
Regular attendance is essential for learning, and the district encourages families to review Board Policy 204 for more details.
For questions or more information, families can contact the district office.
