To kick off Read Across America Day and week, classrooms across the School District of Lancaster were filled with something extra. Students welcomed special guest readers who stepped in to share stories and celebrate the joy of reading.
As part of Read Across America Week, leaders, educators, community members, and district staff visited schools throughout Lancaster to read aloud to students. Each visit was a reminder that literacy is the foundation for everything we do.
Reading builds confidence, it strengthens communication, and It opens doors to new ideas and perspectives. Most importantly, it reminded us that literacy is a shared responsibility. We all play a role in helping students develop a love of reading that lasts far beyond one week in March.
That’s the power of reading. And that’s the power of community.
