At McCaskey High School, a new chapter in athletics is beginning to take shape on the field. Fall 2025 marks the first season for the McCaskey Girls Flag Football Team, part of an inaugural league that is expanding opportunities for young women to compete and represent their schools through athletics.
For the Red Tornado community, the launch of the program represents a continued commitment to ensuring students have meaningful opportunities to explore their interests and build leadership skills through extracurricular activities.
The student-athletes who make up this first team are helping build something entirely new. As the inaugural roster, they are setting the tone for what girls flag football at McCaskey can become and helping lay the foundation for a program that future Red Tornado athletes will continue to grow.
The team recently opened its season with a strong showing during scrimmages at York High School, where McCaskey faced several competing schools and travel teams throughout the morning. Despite being in their first season together, the Red Tornado players quickly demonstrated teamwork and athletic ability. By the end of the day, McCaskey finished with 4 wins, 1 tie, and 1 loss across six games, an impressive start that reflects both the players’ dedication and the excitement surrounding the new program.

Now the focus turns to McCaskey’s home field.
On Sunday, March 15, the Red Tornado Girls Flag Football Team will host Week 1 of its season on the McCaskey turf field, welcoming teams from across the region for a full day of competition. The event will bring together athletes from McCaskey High School, York High School, Central Dauphin East, and Gettysburg High School, along with travel teams GSOT I and GSOT II, showcasing the growing interest in girls flag football throughout the region.
The day’s tournament schedule will include six games beginning at 9 a.m., with McCaskey competing in two matchups. The Red Tornado will open the day against GSOT I at 9 a.m., followed by a second game at 12 p.m. against Central Dauphin East.

As girls flag football continues to gain momentum across Pennsylvania, programs like McCaskey’s are helping introduce a new generation of athletes to the game. The sport emphasizes speed, strategy, and teamwork while providing an accessible way for students to engage with football and build strong bonds with their teammates.
For McCaskey High School, the creation of this team reflects a broader commitment to expanding opportunities for students and creating spaces where every learner can discover their strengths, connect with their school community, and pursue their passions.

The School District of Lancaster invites families, students, and community members to come out and support the team as they begin this exciting new season. With a strong start already behind them and an entire season ahead, Sunday’s tournament will be an opportunity to celebrate these student-athletes and the beginning of a new tradition in McCaskey athletics.
The first game kicks off at 9 a.m. on the McCaskey turf field, and the community is encouraged to join in cheering on the Red Tornado Girls Flag Football Team.
