Lisa Unrath named Executive Director of Lancaster Education Foundation

Lancaster, PA — The School District of Lancaster is proud to announce Lisa AM Unrath as the new Executive Director of the Lancaster Education Foundation.

A longtime educator, nonprofit leader, and community advocate, Unrath brings more than two decades of experience across education, organizational leadership, grant administration, and community development. Throughout her career, she has focused on expanding educational opportunities, strengthening partnerships, and building systems that better support students, families, and educators.

The Lancaster Education Foundation serves as the nonprofit partner of the School District of Lancaster, helping fund innovative educational programs, student opportunities, classroom initiatives, and partnerships that enhance learning experiences across the district.

Unrath’s background spans leadership roles across both education and nonprofit sectors. Throughout Pennsylvania, she has led initiatives connected to literacy, STEM, career and technical education, early childhood systems, and 21st Century programming while also supporting educators through professional development, coaching, and program implementation.

Before joining LEF, Unrath served as Executive Director of CASA of Berks County and the Reading Science Center, where she oversaw operations, fundraising, strategic planning, and organizational growth. Her experience also includes managing state and federal grants through organizations such as OCDEL and PA Key, helping organizations secure resources and build long-term sustainability.

Across those roles, Unrath became known for bringing schools, nonprofits, businesses, and community organizations together around a shared goal of creating more opportunities for children and families.

“I look forward to championing the growth of LEF, building a broader platform to support the School District of Lancaster,” Unrath said. “Together, we will deepen our impact on the initiatives that help our children, educators, and schools thrive.”

“Lisa brings an incredible depth of experience and a genuine commitment to students, families, and community partnerships,” said Dr. Keith Miles, Superintendent. “Her leadership reflects many of the same values that guide our district, including collaboration, equity, and creating opportunities for every student to succeed. We’re excited to welcome her into this role and look forward to the future of LEF under her leadership.”

In addition to her professional leadership experience, Unrath has remained active in civic and community organizations through volunteer leadership and board service with the Schuylkill Valley Community Library Board, Junior League of Reading, Women2Women Berks County, and the League of Women Voters.

As the School District of Lancaster continues building strong partnerships throughout the community, district leaders believe Unrath’s experience, leadership, and relationship-centered approach will help further expand the Lancaster Education Foundation’s impact in supporting students and schools across Lancaster.
