As music echoed through downtown Lancaster on Friday night, School District of Lancaster students helped bring the city to life during this year’s Jazz in the City celebration as part of Music Friday’s Sound of Summer launch by Music for Everyone.
What began several years ago as a performance opportunity on the hill at Lincoln Middle School has continued to grow into a larger citywide celebration of student musicianship, now welcoming performers from multiple schools to Penn Square and surrounding downtown locations.
Throughout the evening, students took the stage in front of families, community members, visitors, and local businesses as live music filled the streets of Lancaster. Performances showcased not only musical talent, but also the confidence and dedication students build through the arts.

The night concluded with a performance from Jackson and Lincoln Middle School students, bringing the event full circle and honoring the school’s connection to the origins of Jazz in the City. Watching students close out the evening in the heart of downtown highlighted how much the program has grown and the impact music education continues to have across the School District of Lancaster.
Jazz in the City give students opportunities to perform beyond the classroom while helping strengthen connections between schools and the broader community. This also reflect the important role the arts play in creating spaces where students feel seen, supported, and celebrated.

Thank you to Music for Everyone, our music educators, staff, families, and community partners for continuing to invest in opportunities that allow student voices and talents to be shared throughout Lancaster City.
