Communication is at the center of learning. It’s how students ask questions, build relationships, advocate for themselves, share ideas, and make sense of the world around them. For many students, that growth happens with the support of speech-language pathologists who help them find the tools and confidence they need to be heard.
During National Speech Month and Speech Pathology Day, the School District of Lancaster is proud to recognize our 30 speech-language pathologists, who bring a combined 228 years of service to students and families across the district.
Speech-language pathologists support far more than speech. They help students with language development, articulation, fluency, voice, social communication, and the use of communication tools and strategies. They collaborate with teachers, families, specialists, and school teams to make sure students have access to the support they need throughout the school day.
At SDoL, this work is deeply connected to belonging. When students can communicate, they can participate. When they can participate, they can build relationships, show what they know, and begin to see themselves as capable learners. Our speech-language pathologists help make that possible every day.
They celebrate progress that may look small to others but means everything to a student and family. They know that growth can take time. They understand that communication is not one-size-fits-all. They meet students with care and high expectations, helping them build skills that reach far beyond the classroom.
To our SLPs: thank you.
Thank you for the expertise you bring to our schools. Thank you for the relationships you build with students and families. Thank you for the careful, thoughtful work that helps students find confidence in their voices and pride in who they are, and in doing so, you help them see the power they already carry.
