Bryson Green keeps a clear picture of what a high-quality education should feel like to a student. Every child should enter school knowing the adults around them see, value and support them.
That belief has guided Green through 11 years of school leadership in Milwaukee, Brooklyn and Fort Worth, where he most recently served as a middle school principal. This year, it brings him to Lancaster.
Green has joined the School District of Lancaster as a Leadership Resident for the 2026-2027 school year. During the 10-month residency, he will work alongside Superintendent Dr. Keith Miles, support the district’s middle schools and learn how central office departments work together to serve students, educators and families.
“Throughout my career, I have been driven by a deep commitment to organizational leadership, educational equity, and creating pathways that ensure every student has access to a high-quality education in a school where they are known, loved, cared for, and supported,” Green said.
His experience as a principal gives him a practical foundation for the work ahead. School leaders see firsthand how curriculum, staffing, student services, professional learning and district expectations come together inside a building. They also see where systems are working well and where students or educators need additional support.
Green’s residency will allow him to study those systems from the district level. Working with Dr. Miles and other SDoL leaders, he will learn how priorities move from planning to implementation, how departments coordinate their work and how district decisions respond to the needs of individual schools.
His background in middle school leadership will be especially relevant as he supports SDoL’s middle schools. The middle grades mark a period of significant change for students as they take on greater academic expectations, develop more independence and continue forming their identities. Strong middle schools must pay close attention to instruction, relationships, school culture, attendance and student wellness while helping families navigate those changes alongside their children.
That work connects directly with SDoL’s focus on academic excellence and a culture of belonging. The district’s strategic plan calls for equitable access to strong instruction while fostering schools where students feel valued, supported and empowered. Green’s approach brings those commitments together by placing students’ experiences at the center of decisions about teaching, leadership and school systems.
His academic background reflects the expanding scope of his career. Green earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and a Master of Arts in Elementary and Middle Education from Alverno College. He later completed a Master of Business Administration in Education Leadership at the Milwaukee School of Engineering, adding an organizational perspective to his preparation as an educator and school leader.
Green is now a doctoral candidate in the Doctor of Education Leadership program at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. His residency with SDoL is part of the final stage of that program, giving him an opportunity to connect his doctoral studies with the daily responsibilities and long-term decisions involved in leading a public school district.
Following the residency, Green plans to defend his capstone project in April 2027 and complete his doctoral program. He hopes to become a school superintendent, carrying forward what he has learned from leading schools and studying how districts can build stronger systems around them.
Before reaching that next step, Green wants to learn from Lancaster.
“I am excited to learn from the incredible students, families, educators, and community partners who make SDoL such a special place,” Green said. “I look forward to building meaningful relationships and contributing to the outstanding work already taking place on behalf of this rich community.”
Those relationships will be an important part of his residency. Listening to people closest to SDoL’s schools will help Green understand the district beyond its organizational structure, including the experiences, priorities and strengths of the community it serves.
Over the next 10 months, Green will bring his experience as a principal into conversations about the district’s future while continuing to grow as a leader himself. His time in Lancaster offers an opportunity to support SDoL’s middle schools, learn from the community and contribute to work that keeps students at the center.
