Together we can
Health & Welfare

We need to work together to prevent the spread of illness.

The School District of Lancaster will continue to follow recommendations from the CDC and the Pennsylvania Department of Health regarding communicable disease, as well as monitor local health conditions. Here’s how families can help.

Encourage basic safety practices

Students should:

  • wash hands regularly, or use hand sanitizer, if soap and water are not
    available;
  • cover their mouth with a tissue or elbow when coughing or sneezing;
  • Be up-to-date on vaccines and booster shots to prevent serious illness;
  • Wear a face covering if experiencing symptoms or concerned about contracting transmissible illness.

Please monitor your child’s health daily.

Any student with fever should be encouraged to stay home until 24 hours fever free without medication.

When you may have a respiratory virus ...

Per the CDC, to prevent the spread of respiratory illness, stay home and away from others (including people you live with who are not sick) if you have respiratory virus symptoms that aren’t better explained by another cause. These symptoms can include fever, chills, fatigue, cough, runny nose, and headache, among others.

  • You can go back to your normal activities when, for at least 24 hours, both are true:
    • Your symptoms are getting better overall, and
    • You have not had a fever (and are not using fever-reducing medication).
  • When you go back to your normal activities, take added precaution over the next 5 days, such as taking additional steps for cleaner airhygiene, masksphysical distancing, and/or testing when you will be around other people indoors.
    • Keep in mind that you may still be able to spread the virus that made you sick, even if you are feeling better. You are likely to be less contagious at this time, depending on factors like how long you were sick or how sick you were.
    • If you develop a fever or you start to feel worse after you have gone back to normal activities, stay home and away from others again until, for at least 24 hours, both are true: your symptoms are improving overall, and you have not had a fever (and are not using fever-reducing medication). Then take added precaution for the next 5 days.

Face coverings are optional in all indoor and outdoor areas.

All members of the SDoL community are encouraged to make the best decision for themselves, taking into consideration all factors, including the indoor setting and their own health, while respecting the decisions of others to protect themselves.

Take your best shot.

Together with its health care partners, the School District of Lancaster strongly recommends all eligible individuals be current on all recommended vaccinations and approved booster shots, including COVID-19 and flu.
