Master Facilities Plan

A long term investment in where our students learn, play and grow

The School District of Lancaster is beginning the fourth and final phase of its master facilities plan, with upgrades to seven schools and athletic facilities, at a cost approaching $200 million.

The phased schedule calls for demolishing and rebuilding Burrowes Elementary and rebuilding Price Elementary on the current site of the Lancaster Recreation Center (Lancaster Rec), next to the current Price building. Wheatland Middle, King Elementary, Hamilton Elementary, and Carter & MacRae Elementary will be renovated.

Over the same time span, the district upgrade athletic facilities at Wheatland Middle and McCaskey High and make improvements to Phoenix Academy’s facility on Rockland Street.

The district completed the third phase of its master facilities plan with the Fall 2023 reopening of Wickersham Elementary, a $16.2 million comprehensive renovation and addition to the 1920s building that increased classroom size, added collaboration space, and moved instruction spaces out of the basement.

Other phase three projects include:

  • Reynolds Middle School: A $25.5 million renovation that was featured in a national trade publication for its refurbished design that added common spaces, modernized the interior yet preserved the historic architecture. Opened in 2019.
  • Lincoln Middle School: A $30.7 million project to construct a new academic wing, modernize common areas and add air conditioning on the footprint of the aging building. Completed spring 2021.
  • Smith-Wade-El Elementary School: Construction of a new $21.6 million, 61,000 square foot building on district land between the former Buchanan Elementary and Wheatland Middle School. Completed summer 2021.
