The Edible Classroom Garden Summer Camp at Lafayette Elementary for Grades K-5

The Edible Classroom 2024 “Water Works!” Camp will provide children from grades K through 5 with STEM-based experiential learning that requires innovative solutions to real-world problems. Campers will have opportunities to enhance hard and soft STEM skills through water-based projects that will follow the steps of the scientific method. One will require campers to design, build and test a water-harvesting system that will collect rainwater off the school garden’s shed roof and be used to water the school garden. The other will have campers use repurposed items to make a portable water wall to water the garden beds. With the school garden as the backdrop for all our activities, campers will learn about caring for the garden as they water, tend, use integrated pest management techniques, harvest and weigh produce, and measure ingredients to prepare fresh garden snacks. The week will wrap up with a garden celebration! Campers’ families will join us in the garden to taste camper prepared snacks, hear from industry leaders about career connections and enjoy the greenspace together.

Camp will take place at Lafayette ES from 8:30 am – 12:00 pm
