Grades 1-4

An innovative learning model that serves the whole child

The School District of Lancaster’s hybrid learning model is back for another year in 2022-2023. Full Circle Learning integrates technology with in-person teaching, class discussion, student investigation, small group problem-solving, and practice and application at home, for students in grades 1-4.

The Full Circle Learning Program is a family-centered learning option that builds on the benefits and strengths of both traditional school and virtual learning. It allows students to form community as part of a class, participate in onsite learning and support, and engage in lessons that were planned and developed using the School District of Lancaster curriculum.

A flexible schedule at home and at school

Full Circle Learning students will attend school in person four days per week, from 8:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. Each day, teachers will teach English, math, science and social studies and provide time for asynchronous practice, remediation, and/or acceleration, as well as personalized intervention provided by the classroom teacher or classroom aide.

Then, students will learn both live online and independently at home each afternoon. One day per week, students will learn entirely from home with an emphasis on the unified arts, music, art and physical education, as well as other synchronous and asynchronous assignments.

21st century classroom spaces to foster creativity and collaboration

Full Circle Learning is located in the Scheffey Building, on the McCaskey Campus next door to Lincoln Middle School. Four classrooms, one first, second, third and fourth grade class, will each be staffed with one teacher and one classroom assistant. These flexible learning classrooms are specifically designed to provide students with the space needed to learn as part of a large group, a small group or independently and ensure the resources necessary for project based learning.

Multiage classes to individualize and accelerate learning

Each grade, first through fourth, has 16 students who will learn together in multiage classrooms. First and second grade students will have one teacher for English and social studies and another teacher for math and science, as well as classroom paraprofessionals, or aides, for each grade. Third and fourth grade students will also have two teachers and two paraprofessionals.

Since two teachers will be planning lessons and instructing two classrooms of students, they will collaborate closely. This level of collaboration will give teaching teams broader insights into individual student needs, develop their instructional skills faster, and improve accountability for outcomes.

Eligibility

Any student entering first through fourth grade in the School District of Lancaster is eligible to apply for space in Full Circle Learning. Enrollment will be determined by random lottery to reflect the key demographics of the district.
