Substitute opportunities

PA Certified Substitute Teachers

As a substitute teacher, you will be responsible for carrying out the lesson plans of the regularly appointed teacher for whom you would be substituting.  Your goal will be to adhere to the learning environment that would exist if the regular teacher were in the classroom.

Instructional Assistants/Paraprofessionals

Substitute Teacher Service, (STS) has openings for instructional aides to assist the classroom teacher in grades K through 12.  If you are considering a career in education, this would be an excellent opportunity to gain work experience in this area.

Guest Teachers

Substitute Teacher Service, STS, is proud to announce the implementation of the STS Guest Teacher Program.  This program allows those who have a 4 year degree to take an online training program that would prepare them for teaching in the classroom as a day to day substitute teacher. Candidates will be issued an emergency certificate to work in the district(s) of their choice. The emergency certificate can be renewed every school year.

Nurses

Substitute Teacher Service, (STS) has openings for nurses who will be responsible for the medical supervision and health care of students and staff in the assigned school.

Food Service Substitute

Food service staff is responsible for assisting with the preparation, maintenance and breakdown of the cafeteria serving line, providing a clean work area for serving. Food service staff may be responsible for overseeing the collection of monies from students for school meals, provide quality customer service, and record keeping. Food service staff also works with other members of the Department/Building in meeting goals and objectives in support of the District mission.

SDoL takes pride in providing the most comprehensive range of educational services and support for students in the region, including learning support, emotional support, autistic support, and life skills support. We have a high demand for skilled special education teachers and offer:

  • Additional pay for those holding the appropriate certification and teaching state-approved Special Education classes
  • Case management days – two days per year free of other duties or assignments to allow for
    completion of writing IEPs, data collection, or progress monitoring needs
  • Instructional Program Managers support – an additional resource for collaboration
