This week, we are shining a spotlight on Beth Lopez, Cyber Pathways Academy Academic Advisor, at McCaskey HS, who has been a dedicated member of the SDoL family for 25 years. Over the years, Beth has worn many hats: first as a Middle School and High School Spanish teacher and now as the Cyber Pathways Academic Advisor. Her passion for supporting students and guiding them toward success is evident in everything she does.
When asked what she loves most about her job, Beth speaks about the collaborative spirit she shares with teachers, administrators, and counselors in supporting students and their family feels seen, valued, and supported. “Each student’s journey is unique,” she shares, “but the ultimate goal remains the same: to see them walk across that stage with their diploma. Knowing all the hard work and challenges they’ve overcome, is one of the most rewarding parts of my job—and it’s why I love what I do.”
Ms. Lopez is especially proud of the wide range of opportunities available to SDoL students. She appreciates how the district offers not just academic excellence but a holistic approach to student development, helping students explore various pathways beyond just higher education. “I love that SDoL provides so many options for students to explore their potential, whether through specialized programs, extracurricular activities, or different career pathways. We give students the freedom to chart their own course, and I think that’s so important,” she says.
A proud McCaskey Alum (Class of “The Last Century”), Mrs. Lopez has a deep connection to the community she serves. She’s especially known for her fun and engaging teaching style, which reflects her passion for learning and her dedication to her students. If you ever had the privilege of being in one of her Spanish classes, you might remember her trivia challenge: Mexico, D.F, Mexico, Guatemala, Guatemala…—a catchy tune that’s become a signature part of her classroom legacy.
This school year, Ms. Lopez has been instrumental in working with a dedicated team to create individualized educational plans for students. She is a firm believer in the power of teamwork, knowing that the best outcomes for students happen when everyone works together to support their success. “At the end of the day, a student’s success is the collective accomplishment of everyone involved in their education,” she explains.
Beyond her work as an academic advisor, Mrs. Lopez’s impact is felt in the countless lives she’s touched throughout her career. Her deep sense of responsibility to her students and her community shines through in everything she does. She exemplifies what it means to be a dedicated educator and an advocate for student success.
Thank you, Ms. Lopez, for your dedication, your compassion, and your commitment to our students. You truly embody the spirit of SDoL, and we are incredibly lucky to have you as part of our team.
