I am profoundly saddened to write to you amid the trauma of another school shooting, this time at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, Texas. We keep the families affected by such tremendous loss in our hearts and thoughts.
The School District of Lancaster is committed to providing assistance during this troubling time. Resources like student and family resource specialists, school counselors, school-based behavioral health and school resource officers are just some of the professional supports we provide students every day. Our principals, teachers and support staff are trained in trauma-informed and restorative practices, and are here for students at any time.
Please remember there are also tips available for supporting your children in understanding and coping on our district website. Most importantly, reassure your children that they are safe, and that you and the adults at school are here for them.
The school district and the city are observing a moment of silence today at 1 p.m. to honor the victims. Together, we grieve this senseless tragedy, and we hope for a better future.
Sincerely,
Dr. Damaris Rau
Superintendent
School District of Lancaster
