A statement from McCaskey HS athletic director Teasia Peña

“We are aware of and addressing an issue with our boys basketball jerseys.

“The PIAA has rules for where on a jersey there can be design elements. When we ordered our new design, we believed our jerseys met those standards. However, the District 3 rules interpreter later determined that the jerseys do not meet the requirements. We respect this decision and have provided our student-athletes with alternate jerseys to wear for our games.

“At the same time, we are very disappointed that a PIAA official shared a private District 3 communication about this issue in a social media post (since deleted). This brought unwanted attention to our student-athletes, even though they did nothing wrong and are not responsible for the issue.

“We are excited for a new chapter of McCaskey boys basketball under Coach Salisbury. Our school and community fully supports our team—no matter which version of the McCaskey jersey they wear.

Go Red Tornado!”
