Bright Side Opportunities Center recognizes SDoL staff and alumni at annual Sneaker Ball

The 2nd annual Sneaker Ball hosted by Bright Side Opportunities Center brought the community together for a night of celebration, recognizing individuals whose dedication and contributions to Lancaster have left a lasting impact. Among those honored were School District of Lancaster (SDoL) staff and alumni, highlighting the district’s commitment to excellence, service, and community engagement.

 

Brian Nguyen, Communications Specialist – Respect & Collaboration Award Sponsored by Union Community Care, Brian Nguyen, known affectionately as Bri, is being honored with the Respect & Collaboration Award. Bri is one of those people who lights up the room. He is present at nearly every community event, not only supporting but also showcasing the vibrant happenings within our community. Bri’s commitment to showcasing Lancaster’s vibrant community events and fostering partnerships has made him a beloved figure in the city seeing Lancaster through his eyes makes our city shine. He has collaborated with countless organizations, enhancing community bonds and fostering a respect and collaboration among all. By bringing light to every project he touches, Bri has helped build bridges that unify and uplift the community.

Myasija Rivera ’24 – Brighter Tomorrow Award The Brighter Tomorrow Award was presented to Myasija Rivera, a standout student leader at the School District of Lancaster. Myasija, currently serving as President of the Student Council, has proven herself to be a passionate advocate for equity and student representation.

Her involvement on the district’s strategic plan committee and her participation in the Public School Fair Funding Rally at the State Capitol exemplify her dedication to creating positive change. At the rally, Myasija delivered a powerful speech advocating for equitable funding for public schools, a moment that resonated deeply with all who heard it. Her drive and passion for justice make her a young leader to watch.

 

Sir Dominique Jordan ’12 – Servant Heart Award sponsored by Waller Tax and Financial Services. Lancaster native and School District of Lancaster alum Sir Dominique Jordan, known as The Prolific One, was honored with the Servant Heart Award for his dedication to inspiring and empowering the city’s youth. A poetic vanguard and artivist, Dominique uses spoken word and writing to teach vulnerability as a strength, showing others that Hip Hop culture can be a powerful tool for positive change.

Through his work, Sir Dominique has become a beacon of inspiration for young people, teaching them that a servant’s heart can lead to profound community impact. His dedication to uplifting others makes him a true embodiment of this award.

Grandview Church – Diversity & Integrity Award Rounding out the honors, Grandview Church received the Diversity & Integrity Award for their unwavering commitment to inclusivity. Known for embracing individuals from all walks of life, Grandview Church has become a welcoming space where diversity is celebrated, and integrity is at the forefront of their mission.

This year’s Sneaker Ball was a celebration of community heroes who, through their unique talents and dedication, continue to shape Lancaster into a stronger, more inclusive place. We are proud to honor these individuals and look forward to the lasting impact they will continue to make on our district and the broader community.
