On Saturday, May 10, the School District of Lancaster community gathered in the heart of downtown to honor a woman whose influence continues to be felt across our schools. The 4th Annual Dr. Carol Powell 5K welcomed students, staff, families, alumni, neighbors, and friends, each person walking, jogging, or running not only in remembrance but in appreciation of a life that continues to make an impact.
Dr. Carol Powell was a leader who firmly believed in the power of education to open doors and change futures. Her work uplifted both students and colleagues, making every person she met feel seen, heard, and supported. Whether through her efforts on the equity committee or her thoughtful gestures, like handwritten notes of encouragement, Carol brought warmth and purpose to everything she did.
This 5K offers a moment to reflect, connect, and honor a life defined by care, strength, and commitment. As one speaker shared this morning, “The people we lose teach us how to live.” Dr. Powell showed us how to face challenges with grace and how to extend kindness and support to others at every opportunity.
Proceeds from the event benefit the Dr. Carol Powell Scholarship Fund, created through the Lancaster Education Foundation. Each year, this scholarship helps a McCaskey High School senior who plans to pursue a career in education keeping Dr. Powell’s belief in nurturing the next generation alive and well.
