The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on March 1 released updated recommendations on how people can protect themselves and their communities from respiratory viruses, including COVID-19. The School District of Lancaster continues to follow all CDC recommendations regarding COVID-19. The new guidance will take affect on March 11.
“The new guidance brings a unified approach to addressing risks from a range of common respiratory viral illnesses,” CDC said in its e-newsletter. “CDC is making updates to the recommendations now because the United States is seeing far fewer hospitalizations and deaths associated with COVID-19 and because we have more tools than ever to combat flu, COVID-19, and RSV.”
In general, COVID-19 will now be treated as all other respiratory infections. The new recommendations are in alignment with SDoL practices prior to 2020. For example:
- Stay up to date with immunizations.
- Stay home and away from others if you have respiratory virus symptoms.
- Return to normal activities only after you have not had a fever for 24 hours (without taking fever-reducing medication) and your symptoms are getting better overall.
