Celebrating Excellence: Jackson Middle School’s Honor Roll Breakfast

At Jackson Middle School, academic success is a cause for celebration. This year’s Honor Roll Breakfast, hosted in partnership with The Mix, recognized 125 students who earned top grades in the second marking period. More than a recognition event, it reinforced what students can achieve with support and encouragement.

The Honor Roll Breakfast is more than an acknowledgment of academic excellence—it builds pride, motivation, and community among students, parents, and faculty. The Mix, a community organization dedicated to youth development, provided a welcoming space for students and families to celebrate their achievements.

Encouragement and Leadership

Assistant Principal Mr. Wilson Lopez emphasized that success is not just about individual effort but also the support network of parents, teachers, and the community. “Behind all of that, I hope that you can see that there is somebody there that loves you,” Lopez said, reinforcing that education is about shaping young people, not just following rules.

Eighth-grade students showed remarkable improvement. When Principal Dr. Jazmin Torres noticed they had the fewest honor roll members in the first marking period, she challenged them to step up as leaders. The response was outstanding—eighth graders more than doubled their honor roll representation, leading all grade levels. Their turnaround highlights the power of motivation and accountability.

A Community Effort

Beyond numbers, this event reflected a strong community connection. The Mix has partnered with Jackson Middle School for two years to host the breakfast. Marisol Santos, Executive Director at The Mix, was thrilled by the turnout. “It fills my heart because this group was larger than last time,” she said. “Seeing them show up and achieve at this level is exciting.”

This partnership reflects Jackson Middle School’s commitment to strengthening ties between education and the community. By celebrating academic success outside school, students and families feel a sense of belonging and pride that extends beyond the classroom.

Celebrating the Journey

Dr. Torres’ vision is clear: academic success should not just be expected but celebrated. “This is them shining at being a student,” she explained. “That’s the number one goal—academic achievement. And when they do that, we should celebrate them.”

The Honor Roll Breakfast at Jackson Middle School is about more than rewarding success—it fosters a culture where students strive for more, knowing their efforts matter. As this tradition grows, it sets an example: with support, challenge, and recognition, students can achieve beyond expectations.

By celebrating academic excellence in such a meaningful way, Jackson Middle School is not only shaping future scholars but also nurturing confident, motivated, and inspired young leaders who will carry this spirit of achievement with them for years to come.
