Today, Thursday, September 25, we proudly celebrate National Food Service Workers Day by recognizing the contributions of our food service staff across the School District of Lancaster.
Every day, these professionals fuel learning, health, and success for our students. In SDoL, our food service team serves more than 14,000 meals daily across our schools. That adds up to over 2.5 million meals each year, ensuring every child has access to the nutrition they need to thrive.
For many students, the meals they receive at school represent the most consistent source of nourishment each day. Research shows that students who eat balanced meals at school have better attendance, improved concentration, and higher achievement. Our staff members make that possible, not just by serving food, but by serving care, kindness, and dignity at every breakfast and lunch.
Behind the counter, in the kitchen, and in the cafeteria, food service workers bring a blend of efficiency, safety, and compassion to their work. They adapt to new menu options, accommodate dietary needs, and meet federal nutrition standards, all while keeping meals enjoyable for students. Their work often begins before the first bus arrives and continues long after the last tray is cleaned.
To every food service worker in our district, thank you for your hard work, your care, and your commitment. Today, and every day, we celebrate YOU!
