Celebrating our school resource officers: Meet Officer Shannon Mazzante, Reynolds MS

At the School District of Lancaster, we recognize the invaluable role that our School Resource Officers (SROs) play in creating a safe, supportive, and welcoming environment for students and staff. These officers serve as protectors, mentors, and advocates for our students. Among them is Officer Shannon Mazzante, whose commitment to Reynolds Middle School has made a lasting impact on the school community.

Meet Officer Shannon Mazzante

With 16 years of experience in law enforcement and three years as an SRO, Officer Mazzante has dedicated herself to ensuring that Reynolds Middle School is not only safe but also a nurturing environment where students can thrive. As a member of the Lancaster Police Department, she brings professionalism, empathy, and a strong sense of service to her role every day.

A Commitment to Safety and Connection

For Officer Mazzante, the partnership between law enforcement and the school district is about much more than security. It’s about building trust and relationships. She believes deeply in mentoring students, providing guidance, and being an advocate when needed. Her presence at Reynolds Middle School fosters an atmosphere of openness, where students feel comfortable seeking support and advice.

A Heart for Helping Others

Officer Mazzante is known for her giving spirit. Whether it’s through small acts of kindness or stepping in to provide resources for those in need, she never hesitates to go the extra mile. She takes great pride in supporting students and staff, ensuring that everyone feels valued and cared for.

A Powerful Philosophy

One of Officer Mazzante’s most cherished beliefs is that:
“Second to God, I truly believe YOU define yourself, not your upbringing and not your past. YOU dictate who you are and your potential.”

No matter their circumstances, she believes every student has the ability to shape their own future through determination and hard work.

Recognizing Officer Mazzante on National School Resource Officer Appreciation Day

Every year on February 15, we celebrate National School Resource Officer Appreciation Day, a day established by the National Association of School Resource Officers (NASRO) to honor the dedicated officers who serve in our schools. Officer Mazzante exemplifies the very best of what it means to be an SRO—protecting, educating, and mentoring students while strengthening the connection between law enforcement and the school community.

A Principal’s Perspective

Reynolds Middle School Principal Aaron Swinton speaks to Officer Mazzante’s remarkable contributions:

“Our School Resource Officer, Officer Shannon Mazzante, plays a vital role in fostering a positive and supportive environment within our school community. By actively participating in extracurricular activities, she builds meaningful connections with both students and staff, creating a sense of trust and approachability. Her dedication goes beyond her official duties, as she consistently takes initiative to support the school without prompting from administration. These efforts contribute significantly to the overall climate and culture of our building, promoting safety, collaboration, and mutual respect.”

As we celebrate Officer Shannon Mazzante, we extend our appreciation for her dedication to Reynolds Middle School and the Lancaster community. Her work goes far beyond expectations, making a difference in the lives of students and staff alike.

Join us in recognizing Officer Mazzante’s service on February 15 and every day as she continues to shape a safe and supportive school environment!
