Celebrating our School Resource Officers: Officer Eric Lukacs, Jackson MS

At the School District of Lancaster, we take pride in the dedication and hard work of our School Resource Officers (SROs), who go beyond their law enforcement duties to build relationships, foster trust, and create safe, welcoming school environments. With 23 years of experience in law enforcement, Officer Eric Lukacs at Jackson Middle School, exemplifies what it means to serve with commitment, compassion, and integrity.

From Patrol to the Classroom: Officer Lukacs’ Journey

With over two decades of service in the Lancaster City Police Department, Officer Lukacs has seen the many facets of law enforcement. But stepping into the role of an SRO has been a uniquely fulfilling chapter in his career. While he has only been at Jackson Middle School for a year, he has already made a deep impact, becoming a trusted figure in the school community. His approach is not just about ensuring safety, it’s about making students feel heard, valued, and supported.

Walking through the halls, you’ll often find Officer Lukacs engaging with students, sharing words of encouragement, or simply listening. His presence reassures students that their school is a place where they are protected and cared for—not just physically, but emotionally as well.

Respect and Admiration for School Staff

When asked about his favorite part of working at Jackson Middle School, Officer Lukacs didn’t hesitate to highlight the outstanding dedication of his colleagues. “I have so much respect for our Social Worker, Guidance Counselors, and Special Education Consultant. They do more for our students than statistics will ever show. Getting to work with and learn from them daily has been rewarding.”

His words reflect his deep appreciation for the educators and staff who go above and beyond to support students. He recognizes that safety isn’t just about physical security, it’s about mental and emotional well-being. His collaboration with school staff ensures that students not only feel safe but also receive the resources and support they need to thrive.

Going Above and Beyond for Students

Dr. Jazmin Torres, Principal at Jackson MS, shared her admiration for Officer Lukacs and the extraordinary commitment he brings to his role:

“Officer Lukacs always goes above and beyond and is always looking for ways to engage students outside of the school building. He’s always seeking opportunities in the community that can involve our kids. He has done more for our students than I’ve ever seen anyone do. I’m not just saying that—he really does go above and beyond. He has a positive nature, his demeanor is very calm, and he’s incredibly approachable. The kids gravitate to him. If you come to Jackson any day of the week and pop into his office, you’ll find a student there taking a break, talking to him, or being mentored. He does so much mentoring with our kids. He’s not just a great officer; he’s a great person. We are so lucky to have him at Jackson.”

A Life of Unique Experiences

Beyond his work in law enforcement, Officer Lukacs has led a fascinating life shaped by discipline, teamwork, and adventure. Before donning his badge, he played in the NCAA Division II Baseball College World Series in 1998, demonstrating his dedication and competitive spirit.

His love for high-energy environments didn’t stop there. For over a decade (1998-2009), he was part of a NASCAR Development Team, working as a pit crew member—a role that required precision, focus, and teamwork. Additionally, his passion for service led him to graduate from the National Park Service Law Enforcement Academy in the Smoky Mountains of North Carolina in 2000, equipping him with unique skills that would later contribute to his policing career.

Guiding Philosophy: Treating Others with Respect

At the core of Officer Lukacs’ approach is a simple yet meaningful principle: “Treat others as you would like to be treated.” This belief influences how he interacts with students, colleagues, and the wider community. He understands that respect, kindness, and fairness create an environment where young people feel safe to grow, learn, and develop into their best selves.

Making a Lasting Impact

In just a year, Officer Lukacs has touched the lives of countless students at Jackson Middle School. Whether offering guidance, supporting students through personal challenges, or simply being a steady presence, he has built trust that extends far beyond his uniform. He is more than a police officer. He is a mentor, a role model, and a friend to many.

His ability to connect with students—whether through shared interests, personal stories, or just by being approachable—has made a world of difference. His efforts contribute to the culture of safety, respect, and inclusivity that Jackson Middle School strives to uphold.

We extend our gratitude to Officer Eric Lukacs for his dedication, compassion, and service to the students of Jackson MS.  Thank you, Officer Lukacs, for your commitment to making Jackson Middle School a place where every student can succeed!
