Celebrating the team that keeps us moving: National Facilities Management Day at SDoL

Behind every clean hallway, every warm classroom, and every safely lit auditorium, there’s a team of professionals working quietly, efficiently, and with care. That kind of consistency doesn’t happen by accident. It’s made possible by the hard work of our facilities team, people who show up before the first bell rings and keep our buildings running long after the last student heads home.

Today, on National Facilities Management Day, we recognize the people behind the scenes who make SDoL shine.

Our facilities team maintains a unique blend of historic buildings and newly renovated schools across the city. As we approach the final stretch of Phase III in our four-phase master facilities plan, these professionals have played a key role in transforming our district, preserving the architectural character of our older buildings while helping bring new ones to life. Their work has even earned national attention for how we’ve reimagined urban space and honored our city’s history through smart design.

But their impact goes far beyond blueprints and bricks. Thanks to their efforts, classrooms are outfitted with interactive smart boards and audio systems. Our state-of-the-art technical labs, TV studios, and 500+ seat auditoriums are well cared for and ready to support hands-on learning and schoolwide events.

And this year, they brought something special to the spotlight, literally. Our facilities team helped bring the energy in Zyaire & The Facilities Band’s “Lancaster’s Plan” music video, celebrating the role they play in making SDoL a better place to learn and grow. Their sense of pride and humor, paired with their can-do attitude, reminds us that joy and hard work often go hand in hand.

“Our facilities staff are essential to everything we do,” said Drew Schenk, Chief Financial & Operations Officer. “They work tirelessly to ensure our schools are safe, clean, and welcoming environments for students and staff alike.”

Please join us in showing your appreciation for this extraordinary team. Whether fixing a leak, preparing a building for winter weather, setting up for graduation, or starring in a music video, their work helps SDoL function every single day. Their dedication isn’t always visible, but its impact is felt in every corner of the district.
