Centering belonging, access, and opportunity in the New School Year – Office of Educational Access and Opportunity

Dear School District of Lancaster Staff, Students, and Families,

Welcome to a new school year! I am filled with hope and excitement as we begin this next chapter together in the School District of Lancaster. Each new year offers us the opportunity to reaffirm our shared commitment to ensuring that every student feels a deep sense of belonging, has access to meaningful learning experiences, and is supported on their path to success

The Department of Educational Access and Opportunity exists to remove barriers and build systems that help every student and staff member thrive. Our work is grounded in the belief that equity is not an initiative; it is a daily practice rooted in relationships, trust, and high expectations for all.

This year, our team will continue to lead efforts aligned to three districtwide commitments:

  • Ensuring all students feel they belong
  • Closing opportunity and achievement gaps
  • Providing each student with what they need to succeed

These commitments come to life in many ways. We will continue our focus on equity-centered professional learning, inclusive climate practices, and expanded supports for students and families. We will also strengthen our Title IX compliance efforts, elevate student voice, and ensure that staff have the necessary tools to create safe and identity-affirming learning environments.

Additionally, I am proud to lead the Equity Steering Committee, a diverse group of students, staff, families, and community members that guides and reflects on our equity progress as a district. We are also expanding our Employee Resource Groups to provide spaces of connection, support, and leadership development for staff across all roles.

Throughout the year, I look forward to joining you in schools, learning alongside you in classrooms, and collaborating with families and community members in partnership. Together, we can ensure that access and opportunity are not only promised, but fully realized by every learner in every building, every day.

Be Great with Purpose,

Jassinya Alvarado-Padilla
Director of Educational Access and Opportunity
