The School District of Lancaster’s annual survey of parents and caregivers that the district’s communications continue to improve as does families’ confidence in the school district. That’s according to annual surveys conducted by the Center for Opinion Research at Franklin & Marshall College at the end of last school year. The center has been conducting surveys for the district since 2006.
The percentage of respondents who rate the district’s communications as ‘Excellent’ or ‘Good’ increased from 72.1% to 79.5%, the highest rate since the question was first asked in 2019. Overall confidence in the district increased, with 87.4% indicating ‘a great deal’ or ‘a fair amount’ of confidence, the highest since 2017.
Safety continues to be an area of concern for families, with a very slight decline in respondents believing their students is safe at school. That said, the overwhelming majority of respondents do believe their child is safe at school with 84.3% agreement. Interestingly, awareness of School Resource Officers reached the highest level of agreement since the question was first asked in 2007.
Satisfaction with school meals increased to the highest rate since first asked in 2019, though the level of agreement remains fairly low (49.4% of respondents are somewhat or very satisfied). Questions related to social-emotional learning were added this year in light of the district’s significant implementation of PBIS and RULER. The majority of parents/caregivers feel that their students’ academic lessons help their child grow both socially and emotionally.
The Office of Data Analytics updated the online survey dashboard, allowing users to view all student and family survey results for as many years as each question has been asked. Click below to access these dashboards through the district’s survey web page.
