The family of a late McCaskey teacher is donating copies of a children’s book he wrote before his tragic passing two years ago.
Chris Perry died suddenly while driving near Lancaster city in January 2022. Prior to his death, he wrote a book, “Me and My Tree,” which tells the story of a young boy who tries to love and protect a beloved cherry tree by building walls to protect it. But the walls stifle the tree’s growth, and the boy needs to learn to trust the help of others in time to save the tree. Perry’s friend Jason Jolda provided art direction for the book.
The book will be available in all School District of Lancaster librarires.
Perry was a teacher in the Cyber Pathways Academy at the time of his passing, but he taught throughout the district over a 25-year career. He also taught at Buehrle Academy, Lincoln Middle School, and McCaskey High School, where he also coached swimming. He was known for creating–and performing–and McCaskey’s “Tornado Man.”
Presenting the book to SDoL’s digital and print resource specialists were Perry’s parents, Keith and Pat Perry, and Mauree Jolda, an SDoL teacher and friend of Chris’ family.
