School District of Lancaster board of directors president Robin Goodson read a statement aloud during the board’s November meeting updating the community on the board’s search for a new superintendent:
On behalf of the board, I would like to provide a public update on our progress as we conduct a search for a new permanent superintendent.
We continue to be advised by Dr. Irvin Scott and supported by Ray & Associates, a leading school executive search firm. Over two weeks in October, Ray & Associates conducted a series of stakeholder meetings involving different staff groups, families, students and community leaders. The firm also conducted an online survey and provided a summary of the results, as well as focus group responses to the board.
We used the research to develop a set of qualities that we believe our community needs in its next superintendent. These qualities are:
- Proven success as a leader and manager
- A strong moral compass rooted in justice and equity
- Proven ability to improve student performance.
The qualities are listed in greater detail in the job posting, which is now available on our website. It will also inform the rubric the board will use to evaluate candidates.
We are now accepting applications, and Ray & Associates is recruiting through its existing network and personally contacting any possible candidates named during our stakeholder meetings. The deadline for application materials is January 3, 2023, at which time we will begin to screen applicants for further consideration.
There will be additional opportunities for members of the community to engage in the process as the board determines finalists in the spring. We will continue to post updates on our website.
Thank you to all of the members of our community who have engaged and continue to engage in this process.
