The School District of Lancaster had the privilege of joining Girls on the Run of Lancaster & Lebanon at their annual fundraiser, Kickin’ Up Kindness. The evening was filled with energy, generosity, and stories that reminded us of the lasting impact this program has on young people in our community.
We are especially proud that several of our own schools host Girls on the Run teams. For SDoL students, these practices and events are safe, supportive spaces where girls learn to believe in themselves, encourage one another, and build healthy habits that last far beyond the finish line.
Since 2009, Girls on the Run has served more than 18,000 girls across our region, supported by more than 500 volunteer coaches each year. Over half of those participants receive financial assistance, ensuring that cost is never a barrier to participation. This commitment to access mirrors our own values at SDoL, meeting every student where they are and creating pathways for growth and success.
The program goes far beyond running. Through an evidence-based curriculum, Girls on the Run helps students build resilience, strengthen confidence, and develop tools for emotional well-being. It teaches conflict resolution and empathy, empowering students to make intentional decisions both on and off the track.
The phrase repeated throughout the evening was “stronger than sports.” Girls on the Run is proof that athletics can be a foundation for something greater: the development of character, leadership, and lifelong friendships. At SDoL, we believe in the same truth, extracurricular activities are not just about performance, but about shaping the whole child.
We are grateful for the coaches, volunteers, families, and community members who make this program possible. And to our own Girls on the Run teams across the district, you inspire us every day with your courage, kindness, and determination. For more photos, visit us on Facebook.
