Parents and guardians of 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students will receive a mailing in the coming days addressing their students’ career interests. Using data from student career exploration in Xello, each mailing is customized to students’ interests and local career opportunities. This document includes four main components:
- Resources: Outlines next steps students can take to develop a postsecondary plan.
- Progress towards Graduation Requirements: Includes the number of credits students completed towards each high school graduation requirement
- Progress towards Postsecondary Pathways: Information on the median GPA and SAT scores of local colleges and universities. Students receive a report on their unweighted GPA, so they can compare their current grades to schools they are interested in.
- Local Career Options: Finally, there is a report on local career and postsecondary education options based on student interests. Certificate, Associates, Bachelor’s, and Master’s degree options are included with data on median salary and job growth in Lancaster County. All information is based on Pennsylvania Department of Labor workforce data.
This mailing is part of School District of Lancaster’s efforts to get students thinking about postsecondary education early. If you have questions please contact Dr. Jeremy Raff, Coordinator of College and Career Services, at jtraff@sdlancaster.org. Students can request a meeting to develop a career plan by clicking here.
