Naomi-Jeanne Main joins 47 other exemplary McCaskey High School alumni in the school’s famed Hall of Honor. It is the highest award presented to a graduating senior, dating back to 1979.
Main “exemplifies scholarly excellence, the ideals of student leadership, unstinting service to community, participation in extra-curricular activities, unimpeachable integrity, and model citizenship,” said retiring assistant principal Howard Hansen, who presented the award during the school’s commencement.
Main, who plans to attend Yale University in the fall, is a nationally recognized scholar and musician. She received the prestigious National Merit Scholarship for academic excellence and earned acceptance into the 2021 National Association for Music Education All National Honors Orchestra, the first violinist in McCaskey history to reach this pinnacle achievement for a high school musician.
She honed her skill in the McCaskey Orchestra Ensemble, playing for school musical productions, vocal ensemble, chamber choir, full orchestra, and string orchestra. She’s also a volunteer for Music For Everyone and a member of such ensembles as Allegretto, Settlement School of Music, and the Center for Gifted Young Musicians.
At the same time, Main is a tireless advocate for voter registration, running voter drives in several Lancaster neighborhoods. She is also a member of the award winning Cross Country Team, a member of Link Crew, has been inducted into the National Honor Society and, is a member of the Ski Club.
“This one student epitomizes the acme of McCaskey values and traditions,” Hanson said.
A selection committee of faculty and administrators reviews Hall of Honor nominees based on criteria including academics, extracurricular activities, service and achievement.
