FINAL Update on Wednesday, May 29, 2024
Our 90th Commencement has been delayed to 8 p.m. tonight, Wednesday, May 29, at Clipper Magazine Stadium. Students should report at 7 p.m.
Local forecasters believe the majority of rain forecast for this evening will be through Lancaster City between 5 and 8 p.m. The risk of severe weather is low. If necessary, we will proceed in light rain. Please note that umbrellas will not be permitted during the ceremony, so please plan accordingly.
We are sincerely hopeful that any wet weather this evening does not dampen the celebration of the Class of 2024 nor the enthusiasm of our graduates, their families, and our honored guests. We also want to respect our guests who are traveling some distance to be with us this evening, as well as those who make arrangements with employers to be with us on our scheduled date.
Thank you for your patience and understanding. Here’s to a memorable graduation for the McCaskey Class of 2024!
Update 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 29, 2024
Our 90th Commencement is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 29 at Clipper Magazine Stadium in Lancaster. Students report by 5:30 p.m.
Cloud cover is increasing, and a frontal system with rain showers, now near Harrisburg, is forecast to approach Lancaster this afternoon. We will continue monitoring this rain band over the next two hours.
While we strongly desire to hold the graduation as scheduled, we also want to give our graduates, their families, and our guests the best experience possible. For example, our senior musicians are unable to perform on their instruments in rain.
That is why we are still considering whether to proceed in possible rain, delay the program by one hour to 8 p.m., or postpone to our rain date tomorrow, May 30. The forecast for Thursday is for mostly sunny skies, a light breeze and comfortable temperatures in the mid 70s. We will announce a final decision by 4 p.m. via text, email, social media, and the district website.
We appreciate your understanding as we plan for a memorable graduation for the McCaskey Class of 2024!
Update Noon on Wednesday, May 29, 2024
Our 90th Commencement is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 29 at Clipper Magazine Stadium in Lancaster. Students report by 5:30 p.m.
We continue to monitor the forecast for tonight, which is for rain showers, heavy at times, leading up to the ceremony. We strongly desire to hold the graduation as scheduled, but we also want to give our graduates, their families, and our guests the best experience possible.
The options we are considering are to proceed in possible rain, delay the program by one hour to 8 p.m., or postpone to our rain date tomorrow, May 30. No decision has been made at this time.
An important consideration is the forecast for our rain date tomorrow, which is for mostly sunny skies, a light breeze and comfortable temperatures in the mid 70s. If we choose to postpone, it is because we believe the weather tomorrow will make for a more comfortable experience.
Again, we are still monitoring and consulting with local meteorologists on the forecast. Our next update will be at 2 p.m. via text, email, social media, and the district website. To help clarify weather conditions, we may add a third and final update at 4 p.m.
We appreciate your understanding as we plan for a memorable graduation for the McCaskey Class of 2024!
