Two exceptional students, Fulton third-grader Arlo Sampio and sixth-grader Adam Schuetrumpf from Reynolds Middle School, emerged as winners of the MLK Essay Contest. Their poignant words resonated with the theme of Dr. King’s legacy, reflecting the ideals of equality and justice.

A momentous highlight of the event was the presentation of the Attucks Legacy Award to Brother Frank Albrecht. This prestigious award is bestowed annually upon an individual who exhibits bravery, strength, and has contributed significantly to advancing equity for Black and Brown individuals in Lancaster County. Brother Frank’s dedication to fostering inclusivity and justice in the community was recognized and celebrated by all in attendance.

Additionally, the Ruby Payne Cook awards were presented to Ismail Smith Wade El and Jodie Richardson. Named in honor of Ms. Cook, the first Executive Director of Crispus Attucks Community Center, this award recognizes individuals who have dedicated their time and energy to serving the Center and the surrounding community, embodying Ms. Cook’s commitment and dedication.

The Essence of Humanity Award, sponsored by the High Foundation, was bestowed upon Gerald Wilson and Dr. Leroy Hopkins. This award aims to recognize individuals who, beyond the requirements of their work, demonstrate remarkable courage, love, strength, determination, encouragement, inspiration, and persistence when dealing with adversity. The recipients, Gerald Wilson and Dr. Leroy Hopkins, exemplify the spirit of caring and provide daily inspiration to those around them.

The Crispus Attucks Community Center’s Annual MLK Breakfast served not only as a tribute to Dr. King’s enduring legacy but also as a platform to acknowledge and honor those who continue to work tirelessly for the betterment of the community. These individuals, through their actions and dedication, embody the principles of unity, equity, and the essence of humanity.
