
The School District of Lancaster is getting two new school leaders. The school board appointed Mr. Tom Mumma as principal at E.R. Martin School and Mrs. Demettra Welters as principal at Wharton Elementary at its meeting on Feb. 20.
Mr. Mumma is currently the assistant principal at Martin. Previously, he served as assistant principal at Lafayette Elementary as well as dean of students and director of Bands at McCaskey High School. Before returning to his alma mater, he taught for 10 years in the Penn Manor School District. Mr. Mumma has earned the Joni & Friends Award for the inclusion of students with disabilities in the classroom.
Mrs. Welters has recently served as interim principal at E.R. Martin. Previously, she served as assistant principal both at Martin and Wheatland Middle School. She also spent eight years as an early childhood teacher and coach at Carter & MacRae Elementary and five years as a tutor for children with dyslexia.
