The first day for teachers in students in the new 90,000 square foot academic wing of Lincoln Middle School will be Monday, March 16. The school will be closed on Friday, March 13, to give teachers time to set up their classrooms. Principal Ryan Schlinkman and superintendent Dr. Damaris Rau announced the change in a letter to parents last week.
The day off on Friday is for Lincoln students only. All other district schools will be open as scheduled. Only Lincoln students and teachers will make up the day on April 28, which is a scheduled snow make-up day. Again these changes are for Lincoln students only.
“Disruption to teaching and learning at this time of year risks impacting our students’ final preparation for PSSA exams,” Schlinkman and Rau wrote. “However, as we shared with the staff, legal and financial considerations prevent us from delaying work on the existing structure. Facing a multi-million dollar deficit for the upcoming school year, we simply cannot bear those costs at this time.”
The pair offered special commendations to teachers and staff for working extra hard to ensure a smooth transition.
