Ross Elementary students participated in Poetry Rolls with students from Franklin & Marshall’s Writers House. Poetry Rolls involves college students leading poetry writing workshops and giving kids the opportunity to make poems on a big white van covered in magnetized words. The students enjoyed creating the poems on the van and then using a typewriter to document their poems.
This is Poetry Rolls’s second incarnation in Lancaster. It was debuted in October of 2017 as part of the city’s Pennsylvania Governor’s Arts Awards festivities. The original project was created by Dr. Kerry Wright, Craig Welsh of Go Welsh, and Heidi Leitzke, now in the department of Art & Design at Millersville University. This year it is being run mostly by F&M students with guidance from Assistant Director at Writers House, Joanna Underhill.
