Price Elementary principal Dr. Florence Krane will be the new principal at King Elementary, effective July 1. The district announced that Marie Byler, the district’s instructional program manager for English Language Development, will serve as interim principal.
Dr. Krane replaces Jennifer Pahl at King, who is moving into a central administration role at the end of the school year.
“We salute Dr. Krane for exemplary tenure at Price, which produced strong student academic growth, community engagement, and climate and culture among students and staff,” SDoL superintendent Dr. Keith Miles said in a message to Price families. “At the same time, we are excited for this next step in her career.”
Dr. Krane, who has been principal at Price Elementary in SDoL for the past seven years, will step in as principal, effective July 1.
“Dr. Krane brings a wealth of experience from Price Elementary,” superintendent Dr. Keith Miles said in a message to families. “Her tenure produced strong student academic growth, community engagement, and climate and culture.”
During her tenure, Price achieved what’s called Tier 3 Fidelity in the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports framework, also known as PBIS. Tier 3 Fidelity means Price is effectively implementing and sustaining the framework at all levels—school wide, for students at risk of developing problem behaviors, and among students receiving intensive, individualized support.
“It is never a happy thing to leave a place that feels like home,” Dr. Krane said. “But I am needed elsewhere in the district, and I am excited about the opportunity to take this next step in my career.”
In addition to her central administration role, Ms. Byler has extensive experience in building leadership. She served as assistant principal for more than 15 years at McCaskey High School and Reynolds Middle School, where she helped lead the school through its recent construction project.
“We acknowledge that this is a time of transition for our Price families,” Dr. Miles said, as the school will be temporarily relocated to the former Buchanan Elementary for the upcoming school year as construction begins on a new building for Price. “We understand that transitions can bring a mix of emotions, and we are committed to ensuring a smooth and supportive changeover.”
Assistant principal Theresa Kirchner will remain in her role, as will community school director Bianca Cordova and the district’s partnership with the Boys and Girls Club of Lancaster. Melanie Martinez, retiring this year as principal at Wharton Elementary, will also collaborate on-site with the leadership team several days each week.
