Recognizing excellence: SDoL celebrates athletes in winter sports

The School District of Lancaster recognized and celebrated the achievements of several outstanding student-athletes during the School Board meeting on Tuesday, March 18. These athletes have demonstrated remarkable skill in their respective sports while exemplifying dedication, perseverance, and sportsmanship. Their accomplishments bring immense pride to our district and serve as an inspiration to their peers and the broader community.

Girls Wrestling: A Legacy of Strength

Girls wrestling continues to gain momentum, and our athletes have proven they belong among the nation’s best:

  • Journie Rodriguez captured the title of 2024 PIAA 112lb State Champion and is already a 2025 PIAA State Qualifier. She is also ranked #22 in the United States by USA Wrestling at 115 lbs.
  • Jurelys Peguero del Rosario, another dominant competitor, placed 3rd in the 2025 PIAA and holds a #22 national ranking at 190 lbs.

Their success paves the way for future generations of female wrestlers in Lancaster.

Boys Wrestling: Dominance on the Mat

Our boys’ wrestling team delivered impressive performances throughout the season:

  • Desias Rodriguez was a district qualifier, a Section One First Team All-Star, and secured 30 victories this season.
  • Dabens Charles earned Section One First Team All-Star honors while achieving 25 victories.
  • Avery Vogelbacher qualified for districts, was named a Section One First Team All-Star, and won 22 matches.
  • Vatui Boi showcased his skills by qualifying for districts with 29 victories.
  • Jessiah Jimenez also made his mark, qualifying for districts with 22 victories.

Their efforts and determination throughout the season reflect the strong competitive spirit that defines SDoL athletics.

Basketball: Excellence on the Court

This basketball season brought thrilling moments, with individual players standing out for their talent and leadership:

  • Deandre Jones was named a Boys Basketball Section 1 All-Star, demonstrating excellence in athleticism and teamwork.
  • Johanna Mills earned First Team All-Star honors in Girls Basketball, highlighting her skill and contributions on and off the court.
  • Livviah Sweeney excelled both academically and athletically, earning the prestigious All-Academic All-Star distinction.

Swimming: Making Waves in Competition

SDoL’s swimming program also had a standout performance this season, with Jordyn Schuessler finishing 5th in the 100 breaststroke at the LL League Championship meet and qualifying for districts. His hard work and perseverance showcase the growing strength of SDoL’s swimming program.

Celebrating Our Student-Athletes

Each of these athletes has shown outstanding commitment, pushing themselves to new heights and setting an example for others. Their achievements extend beyond personal victories, they uplift the entire SDoL community and serve as role models for younger students striving for success in both sports and academics.
