School board approves academic calendar for 2024-2025 school year

The last day of summer break for School District of Lancaster students will again be a Monday, as the district will again start the year with three consecutive four-day weeks. The school board approved the calendar at its meeting in January.

2024-2025 Academic Calendar

The first day of school will be Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2024 for students in grades K-6 and McCaskey freshman, as well as seventh- and eighth-graders at ER Martin School. All other students return on August 21.

Barring snow days, the last day of school will be Friday, May 30, 2025.

The first day of school is the same date as the previous two years and falls nearly two weeks prior to Labor Day. Students will again have a four-day weekend around Labor Day.

Fall parent-teacher conferences will be held November 25-26, which means students will not be in class the entire week of Thanksgiving. During conferences, teachers review student report cards and other academic and social development from the first marking period with families. Available hours for conferences will be 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on November 25 and 8 a.m. to noon on November 26. Students will not report those days, and schools will develop their own schedules during those times. Winter parent-teacher conferences will be held February 6 from 4 to 8 p.m. and February 7 from 8 a.m. to noon. Students will not report to school on Feb. 7.

The district will release students early on the second Wednesday of every month for staff meetings. Additional in-service days are October 25, January 17, and June 2 (pending snow days).

The schedule also includes a four-day weekend for students March 21-24. Teachers will have conference-style professional development on March 24. March 21 will be the only scheduled snow make-up day in the calendar. Any additional days can be counted as Flexible Instructional Days (FIDs), or made up by adding days after May 30.

Because Christmas and New Year’s Day are on Wednesdays, winter break will be slightly longer than usual, from December 23 to January 1, with district offices open four of those days. Thanksgiving break will be Nov. 27-29 and spring break will be April 18-21.
