The School District of Lancaster participated in Rep. Mike Sturla’s 13th Annual Back to School event, held on August 18th at Clipper Magazine Stadium. The event brought together families, students, and community members for a day of celebration, preparation, and support as the new academic year approaches.
The Back to School event, an annual tradition in the Lancaster community, provided essential resources to help students start the school year off on the right foot. With a variety of activities, including school supply giveaways, free haircuts, health screenings, and informational booths, the event served as a one-stop shop for families to ensure their children are ready for the upcoming school year.
Organizing and coordinating the event were the offices of Sturla and state Rep Ismail Smith-Wade El, whose districts jointly encompass the School District of Lancaster. They also represent portions of three other districts, Hempfield, Manheim Township and Penn Manor, whose students were also invited to participate.
The event drew a diverse crowd of students, parents, and community members, all eager to ensure a strong start to the new school year. The School District of Lancaster set up an engaging booth where district representatives distributed giveaways, school supplies, and valuable information about district services and programs. Staff members were on hand to answer questions and assist families in navigating the various resources available to them.
Superintendent Dr. Keith Miles emphasized the importance of the district’s participation in the event, stating, “We are committed to supporting our students and their families as they prepare for the new school year. Events like Rep. Sturla’s Back to School celebration are vital in ensuring that every child in our community has the resources they need to thrive academically and personally. We are grateful for the opportunity to connect with our families and strengthen the bonds that make our district and community strong.”
The School District of Lancaster’s involvement in the event reflects its ongoing commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive environment for all students. As the new school year approaches, the district remains dedicated to providing high-quality education and resources to help every student achieve their full potential.
Rep. Mike Sturla’s Back to School event is a testament to the power of community collaboration in supporting education and ensuring that all students have the tools they need for a successful academic journey. The School District of Lancaster looks forward to continuing its partnership with community leaders, organizations, and families to create a brighter future for all students.
