The School District of Lancaster welcomed over 320 Pre-K students, their adult chaperones, and Early Childhood Education students from McCaskey for a spirited kickoff event at Corn Cob Acres. This annual celebration marks the beginning of an exciting year of learning, laughter, and community engagement for our youngest learners and their families.
For the past four years, this annual event has served as a joyful kickoff for the Pre-K program, allowing families to engage in hands-on, interactive activities. “We do this every year, and it’s always a highlight for our students and families,” said Dr. Shaun Perez, Instructional Program Manager of State & Federal Programs. “It’s a fantastic way to welcome families to our district and provide a nurturing environment for our young learners. We aim to create an inclusive experience where families can experience the joy of learning alongside their children.”
The day included activities like gem mining and hay rides, alongside a family lunch that celebrated the seasonal theme of pumpkins and fall, which aligns with the week’s curriculum.
Jennifer Johnson, educator in the Educator Rising Program, emphasized the event’s significance for high school students aspiring to become educators. “We chaperone the preschool classes to give our students hands-on experience in guiding young children. It’s crucial for their development as future teachers, helping them learn about discipline, instruction, and the joy of teaching,” she explained. “This experience not only prepares them for student teaching but also helps build a strong foundation for their careers in education.”
Rebekah Reyes, an 11th-grade student in the Educator Rising Program, expressed her motivation for participating. “I want to make a difference in the world, starting with the youth,” she said, highlighting the impact of early childhood education.
The School District of Lancaster has been dedicated to serving at-risk preschool-aged children and their families for over 20 years, providing high-quality, standards-based early learning classrooms. The primary goal of the Pre-K program is to support the cognitive, linguistic, social, emotional, and physical development of children, ensuring they are well-prepared for the transition to Kindergarten.
As the school year unfolds, the School District of Lancaster looks forward to nurturing the growth and development of its youngest learners, fostering a love of learning that will last a lifetime.
