SDoL principals wrap presents to bring holiday cheer to local students and families

This holiday season, the School District of Lancaster is spreading warmth and joy to students and families by partnering with The Mix for its annual gift-wrapping initiative. On Friday, December 13, SDoL principals and district leaders came together to wrap donated gifts for local students and their families, spreading joy and holiday cheer as part of a growing community initiative.

Dr. Camille Hopkins, Director of Schools, shared the heart behind the event. “Today, we’re here to celebrate and spread joy to our amazing students and their families. Our school leaders adopted 23 students from The Mix, along with their siblings, to make sure they all have something special to look forward to at the holiday party this Saturday,” she said.

The initiative, now in its second year, is part of the Office of Student Services’ ongoing mission to strengthen connections with the community. Last year, the project began by adopting students, but this year it has expanded to include siblings, further amplifying its reach and impact. “We have more students this year and, for the first time, we’re including siblings,” Dr. Hopkins explained. “The Mix provided us with details—ages, grades, and even specific gift requests. It’s so special to see their wishes come to life, whether it’s gift cards, nail kits, or playsets.”

The event brought together a community of generosity. Gifts were donated by individuals, organizations, and businesses throughout Lancaster, showcasing the district’s strong partnerships and shared commitment to student well-being. SDoL principals and leaders personally wrapped each present with care, ensuring every detail was perfect for the children who would receive them.

“When we think about this initiative, it’s about so much more than gifts,” Dr. Hopkins emphasized. “It’s about showing our students and their families that they are seen, valued, and supported. The holidays can be challenging for many families, and this is one way we can come together to uplift them.”

The gifts were distributed at The Mix’s holiday party on Saturday, where students and families gathered to celebrate the season. For many of the children, the event will be a highlight of their holidays, filled with laughter, connection, and the joy of unwrapping something just for them.

SDoL’s commitment to initiatives like this underscores its dedication to not only academic success but also to the holistic well-being of its students. By partnering with local organizations and fostering a spirit of giving, the district is helping to create lasting memories for families throughout the community.

As the holiday season continues, Dr. Hopkins reflected on the program’s growth and potential for the future. “This is only our second year, but already, we’ve seen how much this effort can mean to our families. I’m excited to see how this initiative will continue to grow and touch more lives in the years to come.”

Thanks to the generosity of the Lancaster community and the dedication of SDoL leaders, this initiative ensures that every child feels the magic of the holidays.
