The School District of Lancaster is pleased to announce the appointment of Anita Pilkerton-Plum to the Board of Directors, filling the vacancy left by the recent resignation of Cheryl Desmond. Ms. Pilkerton-Plumb will serve as Director until December 2025. Should she wish to continue beyond that date, she will need to appear on the ballot for election in November 2025.
Cheryl Desmond, who served the district with distinction, cited family responsibilities, ongoing professional interests, and personal goals as the reasons for her departure, effective August 1, 2024. Her contributions to the district are deeply appreciated, and we wish her all the best in her future endeavors.
Anita Pilkerton-Plumb brings a wealth of experience and dedication to her new role. A licensed clinical social worker with a thriving counseling practice in Lancaster City, she has long been an advocate for the well-being of children, teens, and adults in our community. Her work has focused on reducing mental health stigma and providing essential support to those in need.
In addition to her professional expertise, Ms. Pilkerton-Plumb has been a tireless volunteer within the School District of Lancaster.
She has actively participated in Parent-Teacher Organizations (PTOs), the Parent Advisory Council (PAC), the district’s wellness committee, and the 2019 boundary study. Her passion for community engagement is evident in her support of the arts, the LGBTQ+ community, and local families.
Ms. Pilkerton-Plumb’s academic background includes a degree in Human Development and Family Studies from Penn State University and a Master’s in Social Work from Temple University. She is also a proud parent of a 2022 McCaskey graduate and a current McCaskey student, further deepening her connection to our district.
The board is confident that Anita Pilkerton-Plumb’s experience and commitment to the community will greatly benefit the School District of Lancaster during her tenure. Please join us in welcoming her to this important role.
