The School District of Lancaster partnered with the Mathematics Educators at Millersville University to host a Math Fair at Wickersham Elementary School on Thursday, October 24th, 2024, from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM.
This event aims to foster a love for math among students in grades K-5 through engaging and interactive math-oriented games and activities. The Math Fair is designed to strengthen students’ foundational mathematical skills while providing an evening of entertainment, learning, and fun for the whole family.
Representatives from the Mathematics Educators at Millersville University, an organization dedicated to preparing future math teachers, have put together a variety of “MATHemagical” games and challenges that will both educate and excite young minds. Students will have the opportunity to engage in hands-on math activities, build problem-solving skills, and develop a deeper understanding of mathematical concepts — all in an enjoyable and interactive environment.
“We want to create an experience where students see math as something fun and exciting, not just something they do in the classroom,” said a representative from Millersville University’s Math Educators group. “Our goal is to help them discover the magic in numbers and inspire a lifelong appreciation for mathematics.”
Parents, guardians, siblings, and friends are all encouraged to attend this free community event. In addition to the games and activities, there will be prizes for participants, adding an extra element of excitement to the evening.
The Math Fair provides an excellent opportunity for students to develop math skills outside of the traditional classroom setting while interacting with their peers, teachers, and family members. It’s a chance to come together as a community, have fun, and celebrate the power of education.
